INTERNSHIP GUIDE
Internship Subject and Content
Article 1 - (1) Every student studying in the Department of Tourism Management is required to complete an internship in private sector/public enterprises deemed appropriate by the Department Internship Commission in accordance with the principles of Associate and Undergraduate Education and Training at Malatya Turgut Ozal University in order to reinforce their theoretical knowledge with practice, gain practical work experience in their field and develop their application skills.
Internship Requirement and Duration
Article 2 - (1) The internship period for students in the Department of Tourism Management is sixty (60) working days. Students must successfully complete the internship to graduate. Students who fail to successfully complete their internship cannot graduate, even if they have passed all courses in their curriculum.
(2) Students must complete the required internship in a single semester. The internship can be completed at the same or different businesses. If a student wishes to change their internship location, they must submit this request to the Department Internship Committee. The Committee will evaluate the request, and if the Committee deems it appropriate, the internship location may be changed.
Internship Time and Period
Article 3 - (1) Internships are conducted during the summer term, when no actual education takes place. Internships can be conducted during academic holidays, at the earliest following the sixth semester. The internship period is announced annually by the Departmental Internship Committee, provided that it falls between the end date of the "Spring Semester Final Exams" specified in the academic calendar announced by Malatya Turgut Özal University and the "Fall Semester Classes Begin" specified in the academic calendar of the following academic year. Students completing internships both domestically and internationally must complete their internships between the specified dates. The Departmental Internship Committee may extend the internship start and end periods due to natural disasters, pandemics, etc. Approval from the Departmental Internship Committee is required for internships to be conducted on other dates.
(2) Students who have successfully completed all courses in their curriculum or who are not required to attend the remaining courses for graduation may complete their internships during the academic term.
(3) Official holidays are not included in the internship period. A week is considered five working days. Saturdays are also considered workdays in workplaces where Saturdays are considered workdays.
(4) Attendance at the internship is mandatory. Students are excused for reasons such as health reports received during the internship, natural disasters, family reasons, etc., or situations where written permission is granted by the workplace official at the internship location. However, days missed due to valid excuses cannot exceed 10% of the total compulsory internship period. Students who receive a sick leave or leave during the internship must complete their internship at the end of the internship for the number of days they receive a sick leave or leave.
(5) Interns cannot take summer school courses during the internship period.
Places for Internships
Article 4 - (1) The responsibility for finding an internship lies primarily with students. Students may not begin their internships without first obtaining the Departmental Internship Committee's approval for the company they find. They may not change their internship location without notifying the Departmental Internship Committee. Students may complete their internships at the following institutions, organizations, or businesses operating in the tourism sector, either domestically or internationally:
Five- or four-star hotels,
Five- or four-star resorts,
Tour operators, Group A travel agencies,
Yacht, marina, and cruise ship businesses, and
Other locations deemed appropriate by the Internship Committee.
(2) Students are responsible for documenting that their internship location is one of the workplaces specified in these articles. The Departmental Internship Committee will determine the suitability of the student's internship location.
Internship Procedures
Procedures to be Performed Before the Internship
Article 5 - (1) Internship applications must be submitted within the timeframe announced by the Tourism Management Department Internship Committee of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at Malatya Turgut Özal University in the relevant semesters.
(2) The Internship Book can be obtained from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences Secretariat, and internship forms can be obtained from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences website.
(3) Students apply to the company where they wish to intern by completing the "Internship Application Form."
(4) After the internship application is approved by the company, they submit a photocopy of their ID, the approved "Internship Application Form" (signed), the "Letter of Undertaking," and the "Student Insurance Information Form" to the Department Secretary.
(5) The student's Internship Application Form, once approved by the company, must be approved by the Department Internship Committee.
(6) After having the relevant authorities sign the required forms, the student begins their internship in accordance with the dates on the Commitment Form.
(7) Students who will be conducting their internship abroad must complete and have the required fields on the internship forms approved (with signature and stamp, if applicable) upon departure.
Procedures to be Performed During the Internship

Procedures to be Followed at the End of the Internship
(1) Upon completion of their internship, the student requests the company to prepare a "Workplace Report Form." The company representative indicates the student's internship evaluation score on the form and returns the form, signed and stamped, to the student in a sealed envelope. The student submits this form, along with the "Internship Book," to the Department Secretary.
(2) For students who completed their internship abroad, their internship documents, or for students who work abroad in a job related to their department, must be prepared in English. Documents other than English must be translated into Turkish by a sworn translator.
(3) Students who completed their internship abroad must submit their internship files, along with their passport photocopies, to the Department Secretary. Students who completed their internship abroad must include their employment contract documents and the internship book in their file. Students who completed their internship abroad are not eligible for occupational accident and disease insurance.
(4) Students who complete their internships are required to submit all required documents, complete and complete, to the Department Secretary within 15 (fifteen) days of the start of classes in the following academic semester.
(5) The Internship Committee will review, evaluate, and announce the internship files within the first two (2) months of the submission date.
(6) Students may submit a written objection to the Faculty Dean's Office within 15 (fifteen) days of the results being announced. Objections will be evaluated by the Internship Committee and finalized within the following 15 (fifteen) days.
(7) The status of students who successfully complete their internships will be recorded in the Student Automation System by the Department Head no later than the end of the semester following the internship evaluation.
Internship Exemption Procedures
Article 6 - (1) Students (including those who transfer to the department vertically or horizontally) may be exempt from internships if they provide documentation of internships they completed during their studies in previous equivalent associate or undergraduate programs, and if deemed appropriate by the Department Board. In this case, students may apply for exemption by submitting a written petition to the Department Secretariat, providing documentation no later than 15 (fifteen) days from the start date of the semester in which they first registered for courses. Students who fail to submit internship documentation within the specified semester will not be accepted for internship exemption. Students who transfer to the department vertically or horizontally must complete their internships if they are missing an internship.
(2) Students who have worked in a job related to their department, either domestically or internationally, and registered with the Social Security Institution (SGK), during the period of their internship may be exempt from internships, if deemed appropriate by the Internship Committee, provided they provide documentation.
(3) Students who can prove they are registered with the Social Security Institution (SSI) during their internship must apply to the Department Secretary within 15 (fifteen) days of the start of classes in the following academic semester.
(4) Students applying for exemption must complete the "Internship Exemption Application Form" along with their SSI transcript and submit it to the Department Secretary.
(4) Exemption requests are reviewed and announced by the Department Internship Committee within two (2) months.
(5) Students may submit a written objection to the Faculty Dean's Office within 15 (fifteen) days of the announcement of the results. Objections are evaluated by the Internship Committee and finalized within the following 15 (fifteen) days.
